22 Dec Year in Review – 2023 Highlights at EasyGo
2023 was electrifying! From new charging stations to funding announcements and reaching a landmark 50,000 customers, EasyGo has certainly reached new heights. But before we drive towards a new year, we wanted to look back at some of our favourite highlights from the past year. Let’s take a look…
New Chargers
During 2023, we continued expanding our charging infrastructure, ensuring that there are accessible charging facilities for all EV drivers and making EasyGo the largest EV charging network across the island of Ireland.
We were proud to be appointed to design, build and operate the FASTER Network, bringing 26 new chargers to Northern Ireland.
It’s our goal to facilitate the growth of EV charging across the island of Ireland. To achieve this we selected the Techniche EV asset and maintenance management product to support the operation of network chargers.
Funding Announcements
It was a year of exciting growth in EasyGo, helped by Aviva Investors investing €30 million in October, allowing EasyGo to increase operational capabilities and our network of chargers. The investment will lead to the creation of 60 Irish jobs in the near future.
Another exciting development was Rubicon Capital Advisors acquiring a further 15.5% equity interest in the company, bringing their overall investment in EasyGo to over 50%. Investments like this will help us to meet our ambitious targets in decarbonising transport and providing accessible and efficient EV charging solutions across the island of Ireland and into the UK.
Partnerships
In September, we announced our partnership with La Rousse Foods and the electrification of their fleet with the addition of 15 new EVs. La Rousse Foods plan to have a fully electrified fleet by 2024 and this addition brings their total electrification to nearly 60%. We are happy to support their sustainable vision by providing workplace, home and public charging to La Rousse drivers. Three DC chargers have been installed onsite with more planned and additional home chargers to support overnight charging.
In September, we had the honour of presenting the 1973 Irish Women’s Football team with special commemorative jerseys to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their first home-international fixture.
Our partnership with eir has allowed EasyGo to install hundreds of EV chargers across the island of Ireland, improving the charging infrastructure for EV drivers. Earlier this year in May, the eir and EasyGo partnership supported by the Mayo County Council announced an investment of €1 million to provide the county with 24 EV charging units.
EasyGo also partnered with EV Rally to provide the drivers access to over 4,000 chargers on the EasyGo, ESB and Circle K/IONITY networks across the island of Ireland. The EV Rally took place from the 3rd to the 7th of July and is designed to test the capabilities of EVs over long distances while supporting the growing charging infrastructure. During the event, around 50 electric vehicles drove over 1200 miles from Cardiff to Dublin while carrying people, luggage and cargo.
In September, we continued our strong partnership with Tritium by installing a 75kW rapid charger in the Salthouse Hotel, Ballycastle which allows EV drivers to charge their vehicles in as little as 30 minutes.
Awards
Our Co-Founder, Chris Kelly, was selected as one of the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Finalists. As a finalist, Chris was featured in the Irish Times and podcasts. This was a great testament to the work of not only Chris but the EasyGo team who have innovated the EV charging industry in the past number of years. You can watch the video here.
Looking to 2024 and Beyond
2023 has been one for the books and we are looking forward to continuing contributing to the growing EV charging infrastructure across the island and aiding the move for new EV drivers to electric vehicles not only in 2024 but in years to come.
